dad is a pro at making you feel like you're not important. i called him, because he called me yesterday and I wasn't able to call him back. i texted him at least to let him know that I couldn't call him back, but that I would call tomorrow. because I didn't want to just blow him off, because he's my dad, even though I am mad at him for many reasons. so I called him tonight, mad at him, but was not going to mention the reasons for my anger. so i'm telling him about my medicaid experience. literally two minutes in (i just checked) he says, oh jesus. can i call you back? like, oh GOD what an annoyance, someone calling me, whoever it is, but they are DEFINITELY more important than you, so I will take THEIR call. and i say, well, sure. ok.

i am mad because he is such a pro at DEMONSTRATING again and again that he does not care about me. with his actions. that's how you communicate with people, largely. but actually he demonstrates his lack-of-caring with his words as well. with his long, drawn out sighs and annoyed tone.

stop. he called back. we talked for 50 minutes. he listened to me. he cared. i listened to him. i cared. i feel better. he's my daddy. sometimes he really is that, and it is wonderful.

i'm ok.  i'm good even.  just some things on my mind today, such as 1)this morning, thinking how i have zero money, how even with free rent i am not making enough money to buy my own food and other necessities.  how that will not be changing anytime soon?  i need to pay for food, phone, small student loan payment, ymca membership.  plus misc. harp and other stuff.  babysitting is great for cash flow, but doesn't add up to very much because i don't work many hours.  so i start thinking, i need to work more.  but really gigs are the key for me as far as making some real dough.  so need to put more concerted effort into getting gigs.  ok, good to note (again), and reapply myself to that.  sending materials to contractors in hopes of weddings.

but still... almost 27.  pretty far from earning enough for basic needs, not counting rent.  once i get there (if?), got that pesky $18 g loan to pull out of deferment and start payin' on.  and then, one day, savings?  a house? a car?  what, in like 20 years?  or just not in nyc?

so moving on.  evening time loneliness, watching 'when harry met sally,' which could just as easily be any other chick flicky show or movie, which is inevitably about love and true love and marriage and all that.  and i end up sad, and feeling like a schmuck.  and i wonder about it all.  things aren't like in the movies, love isn't like that, it isn't so abundantly clear to everyone that these two people belong together, and that these other two people will end up together in the end.  where will i end up?  with whom?  i think sometimes that with me and shawn it IS that clear that we're meant to be together.  what i think now, though, is that unfortunately i continue to feel hurt and angry and frustrated, about the lack of engagement.  i wonder if that is enough for me to fall out of love with him, a little.  i've only ever heard of that- 'falling out of love'- but i guess it happens.  and if it does, it must happen gradually, so that maybe there's a point where you move from being totally in love with the person to being not; to being able to imagine that maybe you will end up with someone else.  am i there yet?  i still am hopeful.  very hopeful.  but i don't think that i am sure anymore.  i am starting to realize (and accept?) that he might not be the one.

new year's eve, and i'm here alone in brooklyn.  had a good day- practiced, went to the gym, cooked some healthy vegetarian foods.  reading david foster wallace and the new new yorker.  all nice.  pretty ok with a chill evening.

so dad called and we talked for a long time, and it was really nice.  he's dealing with his bells palsey, now 9 days old, and he seems in good spirits basically.  he asked how i'm doing.  just a good nice conversation.

and then MOM called right as i hung up with him.  at a party and heading to antones, so she wanted to call and wish me happy new year before she got to the loud club.  so sweet!!  so thoughtful.  they both know i'm home alone, and i had a stomach flu, and i'm having these issues with shawn, so they both thought of me and called.  i feel very loved.  kind of the nicest way I can imagine starting a new year. :)

ok, panic attack was monday, today is saturday, its the first day pretty much symptom-free. woke up yesterday at 7am after a night of vague nausea. other days more of the unreality, funky vision, numb-ish hands and tongue stuff. let me tell you, i am exhausted by it. that's a lot of days of fighting off those feelings, pushing through and practicing, trying to lead my normal day, go on my walk, etc. definitely eating too much. b/c panicky feelings are similar to getting shaky when i'm hungry, so i eat just in case that's the problem. its not, but now i feel fat in addition to feeling out of control. feeling like this crap will hit me at any moment. so i breathe and try to stay calm. but by now i just want to give up, go to sleep. or i sit up a the computer and do mindless stuff.

i'm not mad. i'm just sad. its very sad and not fun and upsetting and frustrating, and i don't like my body turning on me like this because i try to take care of it, i eat pretty well and sleep enough and try to exercise and everything. its not fair that this is happening now. all its doing is stressing me out way more b/c it sucks and is scary and makes it so much harder for me to get my work done. fuck.

ok, panic attack #3? ish. first big one, with it's several-day after effects. then a few days ago i had a short but distinct attack, as follows: Tyler was in town visiting us. we love him! he's our fave from t-wood. so we went out to meet up with Matt and Alyssa, who just moved to brooklyn also. we got coffee. i got a single shot americano, with milk. i had *just* eaten lunch before the coffee, which was an omelet with green onions and tomato, and toast, and tea. so we got coffee, then went to a cute little fish and chips restaurant where the boys ate, we hung out and talked and had a lovely time. we left around 4:30, and as soon as we got in the car I realized I was hungry. I was shaky, which happens after coffee on an empty stomach, but it wasn't! i had an apple with me so i ate that right away, but the shaky feeling felt like panic, and i started feeling panicky. mainly dizzy/weird vision and a little nausea. and fear at the panic. shawn could tell and we hurried home and i ate a banana and then some cereal and calmed down. not a bad one. but frustrating since it happened right after a lovely, relaxing afternoon with good friends!

so today i kind of felt it coming. it was the first day back on my real pill after a week of placebo, so i was careful to have a good big dinner last night (meatloaf!), and i had my normal big bowl of shredded wheat this morning (w/soy milk and tea). good morning, practiced, showered, lunch of omelette with ham, chives, tomato, tea. around 3:30 had my apple, but then started feeling a little funny/weak, so i ate a banana. then i was tired so i laid down for a while. felt dizzy-ish so i thought i would nap through the anxiety. got up after 30 minutes, practiced, went on my walk to Prospect Park. gorgeous day, warm but the walk in mostly in the shade and i felt comfortable. decided not to run at all today, just walk. about 1 mile and 1/2 into the walk, almost to Grand Army Plaza, i noticed that I was not breathing enough, and then it just kinda hit me. i felt my left hand like i do, closing the fingers into the palm, and it felt not there all the way. then the tongue went pretty numb. i hate that. i slowed way down, tried to breathe deeply. there were people all around and i had my phone so i wasn't too scared. i considered stopping right where i was but instead walked just a bit further to a rotunda with benches. sat down. called shawn and told him the situ, but that i felt like i could make it home. sat for just a few minutes, breathing, making sure i wasn't dizzy. got up and walked home. a couple of times i again felt shortness of breath and maybe racing heart/fear so i slowed way down. but i made it home!

boo. so it hit me again at a time when i was feeling good, enjoying the outdoors, not thinking about anything in particular. i think it's important for me to get out of the house and move around and get the blood flowing. so it pisses me off that it happened then. i wasn't over exerting myself- sometimes i jog, but not today. once i got home, i ate meatloaf, salad, and then a little cereal. felt better after a while. went to practice and started feeling weird again within 10 minutes- weak, a little queasy, vision weird. didn't feel like fighting it, so i came in the living room to where shawn was practicing. now reading, eating ice cream and generally feeling sorry for myself. typed in my symptoms and once again confirmed that this is panic/anxiety, which is comforting. had a crying spell b/c i don't like that it can just hit at any moment, even when i feel fine, i promise! i will still go to a doctor to check me out if i get medicaid (fingers crossed).

in other news, i got a great babysitting job today! the mom, leah, called right after dinner. she lives a 10-minute walk from me, and i'll be babysitting her beautiful 4-month old son and helping out around the house. $12/hour, and it should be great! so now can i relax?

ok, let's remember this unfortunate episode.

meggie fainting spell #3.  #2 was in Hawaii in summer 07, after being jet-lagged, taking too much allergy medicine, waking up and looking under the sink for something (shampoo?), and fainting.

today, aug. 21, at 7pm, i had had lentil soup and a pb&j, felt hungry/odd, ate canteloupe.  sat down to write some things in my calendar, felt weird.  i felt queasy first, and my vision and hearing were a little off.  i got very nervous immediately, and my heart started racing.  i went to get food b/c that usually helps, but i knew i didn't have time.  i needed to sit down.  i sat on the couch.  symptoms included very numb tongue, numb, tingly hands, feet a little tingly but less so.  vision and hearing weird, off.  hard to breathe, so i made a concerted effort to keep breathing in and out, carefully.  this seems to keep me from fainting, barely.  shawn was out to see liz at a show so i called him and left a message to please come home.  called mom and she answered, thank god, and talked to me thru the whole thing until shawny got home.  nausea had passed since the initial onset of symptoms, but from previous experience i knew to go to the bathroom.  crawled to the bathroom.  standing up was very bad.  i stood up to look in a mirror, to see my face and eye pupils (face and lips normal, pupils very big).  went potty, a fair amount.  crawled back to couch.  didn't feel instantly better, but things seemed to slowly get better at this point.  the worst was after standing up.  from the time i called shawn to the time i called mom to say i was better, it had been about an hour and 10 minutes.  long time!

i've been sick the last couple of days, but not very.  sore throat, so i took 3 theraflu yesterday.  and then today just achy and headache, so i had taken 2 advil cold and sinus, hours apart.  i also took my pill, but with soup.

i have been worrying a lot about things tho, so i guess this was anxiety-related.  worried about: money (i have none at all), getting a job (been emailing lots of people for pt work), upcoming flights (tulsa, peru), mom and dad (mostly dad lately), and finally, death.

maybe i need to smoke pot so i can relax.

i'm glad i am better, and mom answered and was so perfect and talked to me and was reassuring and wonderful.
